SEATTLE — The start of the 2022 season takes the Huskies into SEC territory this weekend. Washington, ranked No. 8 nationally to begin its fall journey, gets two opening road challenges against the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. The first match will start this Friday, August 26, at 5 pm Pacific time and the following afternoon the teams will do it all over again, at 2 pm Pacific. Both matches will be streamed via SEC Network+

The Dawgs head into the opener ranked No. 8 nationally by the AVCA after advancing to the Round of 16 for the fourth-straight year and the ninth time in the past ten years in 2021. The Huskies are seeking a 21st-consecutive NCAA tournament bid, and also are the two-time defending Pac-12 Champions. Washington is led by eighth-year Head Coach Keegan Cook, who ranks in the top-10 in Pac-12 winning percentage history with a 178-45 mark.

This is UW’s first time starting the season with a true road match since 2016, and the first time starting on the road against an SEC opponent since 1992, when the Huskies opened at LSU.

UW brings back a trio of fifth-year senior All-Americans in setter Ella May Powell, outside hitter Claire Hoffman, and middle blocker Marin Grote. Versatile senior outside hitter Shannon Crenshaw, who also started in the Final Four at libero, will be a big piece, as well as third-year outside hitters Madi Endsley and Emoni Bush. Fourth-year middle Sophie Summers should step into a full-time role, while sophomore Lauren Bays is coming off an All-Freshman Team season at libero. Redshirt freshmen Audra Wilmes and Molly Wilson could see their first official action soon, while UW has two true freshmen this fall in middle blocker Elise Hani and defensive specialist Kate Morin.

The Razorbacks are coming off a 20-win season and were picked to finish fourth in the SEC Preseason Coaches Poll, which is their highest preseason ranking since 2014. On the preseason All-SEC Team was senior outside hitter Jillian Gillen. Gillen has been an All-SEC performer…
