LOS ANGELES— The University of Washington Beach Volleyball team split the first two duals of the “Battle 4 LA tournament” on Friday. The Beach Dawgs took down No. 14 Grand Canyon University 3-2 and fought hard against No. 5 Loyola Marymount, falling 4-1.
In the morning, the Huskies lost to No. 5 LMU. Kendall Mather and Brooke Balue came back, winning their match in the third set 16-14. Freshman Sarah Wilcock became the eighth player this season to make her Husky regular season debut.
The Huskies bounced back in the afternoon dual as they got the best of No. 14 GCU, giving the UW its first ranked win of the season. Lauren Wilcock and Zoey Henson opened the second dual with a three-set victory. Piper Monk-Heidrich and Maggy Rabitsch took down the No. 1 pair from GCU in two sets. Senior Scarlett Dahl and Cal Poly transfer Josie Ulrich brought home the win in a decisive third-set victory 15-11.
Up Next: The Huskies take on No. 1 UCLA at 10:00 a.m. and No. 9 Long Beach State at 2:00 p.m. at Mapes Beach.
