Illinois Volleyball Releases 2024 Non-Conference Slate

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois volleyball head coach Chris Tamas announced the Fighting Illini’s non-conference schedule on Tuesday.

The Illini’s non-conference slate features 10 matches, including one taking place at Huff Hall. The Orange and Blue are set to face stiff competition, with four teams having competed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

The season begins on Aug. 30, when the Illini face off against Cincinnati at a tournament hosted by Bowling Green. One of the newest members of the Illinois squad, Vivian Campbell, is quite familiar with the Bearcat squad, having transferred from Cincinnati earlier this summer. Illinois takes on host BGSU on Aug. 31 to close out the weekend.

The first home match of the season is slated for Sept. 3, when the Illini host Illinois State at Huff Hall. Illinois topped the Redbirds, 3-1, last year. Brooke Mosher logged 37 assists and 16 digs, pacing the squad in both categories during the four-set triumph.

A tournament at Iowa State begins on Sept. 6, with Illinois battling Toledo in the first contest of the weekend. The Illini follow the match with a face-off against the host Cyclones on Sept. 7. The team finishes the weekend slate with a Sunday tilt against Wake Forest on Sept. 8.

The following weekend, the Illini head to the Bluegrass State for a two-day tournament. The Illini take on two teams that made the second round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago in Dayton (Sept. 13) and WKU (Sept. 14).

Illinois travels to Lipscomb for the final non-conference weekend. The Orange and Blue squad take on Missouri on Sept. 20 before a battle with the host Bison on Sept. 21.

The 2024 season marks the eighth under the direction of Tamas, who owns an overall record of 131-81 at the helm for the Fighting Illini. Illinois returns two-time All-Big Ten First Team honoree and two-time AVCA All-Region selection Raina Terry for the upcoming campaign.
