Iran, Ukraine to face off in decisive rubber match after Day 6 victories in women’s qualifier

Iran claimed a surprise victory over Germany, securing second place in the rankings and reshaping the tournament’s dynamics, while Ukraine showed a lot of determination to propel them to a crucial win against Japan on Day 6 of the 2024 WPV Sitting Volleyball Final Qualifier for Women, presented by Delin Company at the Dali International Olympic Sprots Centre on Monday.

The day began with an early spectacle featuring the leading team Slovenia against Thailand. Despite Thailand’s commendable service game in the first two sets, the Europeans showcased formidabale offence, particularly from the left flank with players Klara Vrabic and Barbara Kocmur leading the charge to win 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-9). With this win, Slovenia solidifies their position, entering the final with an unbeaten record.

In the second match, Iran stunned Germany with a resounding 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-21) victory, securing second place in the rankings. Iran’s triumph over the German team sent shockwaves as it reshaped the landscape of the tournament.

Iran’s finely crafted offence and impenetrable defense proved to be too much to handle for their European counterparts. And with each set, Iran tightened their grip on the match, leaving their opponents reeling.

Meanwhile, Ukraine delivered a masterful performance against Japan in a match filled with intensity. From the opening serve to the final point, Ukraine demonstrated focus and resilience, ultimately clinching a crucial 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 27-25) victory.

Despite Japan’s resistance, especially in the third set, Ukraine remained composed under pressure, securing a vital win to keep their hopes alive in the tournament.

Ukraine’s triumph set the stage for a dramatic showdown with Iran on Tuesday, with both teams eagerly eyeing a chance to challenge Slovenia in the final on Wednesday.
