The Italian Sportrait Awards 2024 celebrated the women’s sitting volleyball national team with the prestigious ‘Top Women’s Team’ prize.
Held at the Roberto Rossellini Institute for Film and Television, the event marked the team’s outstanding achievements, including their history-making victory at the European Championships last year, on October 15, 2024, beating Slovenia for the continental title in Caorle that also secured their spot in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
The gala evening saw the team’s key members Giulia Aringhieri, Flavia Barigelli, Elisa Spediacci, Eva Ceccatelli, and coach Amauri Ribeiro take the stage to receive the award.
“For us, it was wonderful to win a European title at home in front of our audience and our families,” declared Ceccatelli. “A success that allowed us to secure the pass for Paris and that will allow us to represent Italy at the Paralympic Games.”
“With only a few months left until the Games. We are holding several training camps to best prepare for the highlight of this season,” reiterated Spediacci. “Sitting volleyball is a wonderful sport and, as far as I’m concerned, the most beautiful among the Paralympic disciplines. Paralympic sports, in general, have now reached a very high technical level.”
“I want to take this opportunity to greet all our other teammates who are not here today,” said Aringhieri. “I thank our coach Amauri for everything he has done for us over the years, leading us towards achievements we couldn’t even imagine. Finally, I thank the federation and all our staff who help and support us at every moment.”
