Italy and Slovenia were on to their third straight win on Wednesday in the 2023 Sitting Volleyball Women’s European Championship, following their respective straight-set wins over Germany and Ukraine.
The Italians took pole position in Group A after a 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 26-24) triumph led by Francesca Bosio and Roberta Pedrelli, who both scored nine points to lead the offence.
The Italians led the block party against the Germans as they mounted seven blocks, wherein Giulia Bellandi, Sara Cirelli and Pedrelli were attributed with two stuff blocks each.
The Germans slipped down to second place with two wins and one loss. In third place are Hungary, bouncing back with a win on the third day against Türkiye 3-1 (25-12, 25-6, 24-26, 25-12) after losing their first match.
The Turkish and Croatian women have not recorded a win and will next face Germany and Hungary, respectively, on October 12.
In Group B, Slovenia showed great composure in wrapping up their tight encounter with Ukraine 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-19) to claim solo lead. Valentina Brik led the Slovenian offence with 22 markers.
Ukraine dropped to second place with two victories and one defeat, followed by Great Britain with one win and one loss.
Great Britain recorded their first win 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 9-25, 25-16) at the expense of France. France and Poland are winless after three days of competition.
