Men’s Volleyball | February 19, 2024

LOS ANGELES – USC men’s volleyball redshirt junior opposite hitter Jack Deuchar (Honolulu, Hawai’i/Punahou School) was chosen as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday, Feb. 19.

While this is a first-career award for Deuchar, it is the fourth this season won by a Trojan athlete. Last week, Dillon Klein (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Loyola HS)and Wesley Smith (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) won both awards to mark the first time Trojans have swept the pair of weekly honors since March 7, 2022. USC collected seven MPSF weekly awards that season. Earlier this spring, senior MB Kyle Paulson (Long Beach, Calif./Milliken HS) earned his first-career honor as the Defensive Player of the Week on Jan. 22.

Deuchar averaged 4.69 points per set to help the Trojans to a pair of wins over Concordia to open MPSF play last week. He had 15 kills and hit .355 in the teams’ first meeting at CUI and added a service ace and a solo block for a total of 17.0 points. In the rematch at Galen Center, Deuchar racked up 17 kills while hitting .394 and collected two more service aces to go with three blocks for 20.5 points. In the two matches, he reached double-digit kills for the ninth and 10th times this season and produced his 11th and 12th matches in double-digit points. On the week, Deuchar had 32 kills (4.00 kps) and hit .375.

The 10th-ranked Trojans (10-4, 2-0 MPSF) moved up two spots in the AVCA/NVA Coaches Poll following a 2-0 week against Concordia. This week, USC heads to Phoenix for its final out-of-state matches of the season. There, the Trojans take on No. 2 Grand Canyon (11-0, 2-0) on back-to-back nights. In the first meeting, the teams will meet at GCU Arena on Friday (Feb. 23) at 6 p.m. MST (5 p.m. PT) and be shown live on ESPN+. In the rematch, the teams will move to Antelope Gymnasium for a 4 p.m. MST (3 p.m. PT) meeting on Saturday (Feb. 24). The second meeting will not be streamed, but links for live stats are available at USCTrojans.com.
