Japan get bounce-back win, Slovenia impresses on Day 2 of women’s qualifier

The second day of the 2024 WPV Sitting Volleyball Final Qualifiers for Women, presented by Delin Company, witnessed intense matchups that left the crowd on the edge of their seats at the Dali International Olympic Sports Centre on Thursday.

The clash between Thailand Japan set the tone for the day, as both teams sought to secure their first win in the tournament. Despite Japan’s initial setback with a loss on the opening day, they roared back with a dominant performance against Thailand.

The East Asian side claimed victory with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-11) sweep, showcasing impeccable teamwork and precision against a developing Thai team.

Meanwhile, Slovenia made a powerful statement in their debut match against zone rivals Germany. With a combination of strategic plays, the Slovenians asserted their presence on the court, securing success with a scoreline of 3-1 (25-13, 25-20, 20-25, 25-17).

Despite the Germans’ strong effort to stage a comeback in the third set, the Slovenians showed resilience that ultimately proved too much to overcome.

In the exhibition match between China and Ukraine, both teams displayed their strength. However, it was China that emerged victorious, delivering a straight-set performance of 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-20).
