Urmia, Iran, August 20, 2023 – Indomitable Japan proved a cut above Uzbekistan as the world No.5 pulled out a sensational 3-0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-13) win in their second match of Pool B in the 22nd Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship at Al-Ghadir Hall 1 on Sunday.
Kento Miyaura emerged as the top scorer of Japan after contributing 15 points including 12 attacks from 21 attempts, while Masato Kai added 12 points. Khosinov Bunyodbek scored 7 points in the Uzbekistan’s loss.
Japan, fielding most of their bench players led by Kento Miyaura and Masato Kai, lived up to expectation to tactically and technically show their superiority over Uzbekistan.
The superb duo exhibited heroic efforts as they used their incredible reach and leap to punish the lower-ranked Uzbekistan with some powerful spikes. The Japanese attacked relentlessly from all angles to win a completely one-sided first set 25-8.
Uzbekistan tried to make amends in the second set with Khosinov Bunyodbek carrying out terrific jump serves, allowing the Japanese difficulties to receive. However, the mighty Japan found their rhythm and went on their aggression and resilience to capture the commanding lead with a six-point clear at 19-13. Despite putting up a gallant fight, Uzbekistan found the strong Japanese uncatchable to go down 19-25.
The third set also went the Japanese way. As Japan surged ahead with a ten-point lead at 19-9, the Uzbeks tried to claw their way back into the game, but the Japanese pulled clear to take the set 25-13 and match.
Following two wins in succession, Japan completed their pool round-robin preliminaries to top Pool B with a perfect run and 6 points. Uzbekistan will go up against Thailand in their last Pool B match on Monday to determine the second place in the pool.
