Kenya got the ParaVolley Africa Sitting Volleyball Zone Championships underway by snatching two match victories against hosts Nigeria on Monday at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
The Kenyan women’s team went through an easier path towards victory over Nigeria than their male compatriots, as they beat their rivals 3-0 (25-15, 25-6, 25-15).
The Kenyan men had a promising start, winning the first two sets until they felt the pressure of the home team in the next two frames. Nigeria secured two-point margins in both set victories, extending the match to a tiebreaker.
The final set went on a seesaw as both teams battled to gain the advantage. The visiting side earned the final three points to finally break away for good in the tough 3-2 (25-22, 25-13, 23-25, 23-25, 15-12) contest.
In his welcome address during the Opening Ceremony, ParaVolley Africa President highlighted the significance of the tournament and the zone’s success in increased participation.
