Kerr Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After several strong performances this weekend, Tennessee redshirt freshman setter Caroline Kerr earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors, the league announced Monday afternoon.

The Champaign, Illinois, native totaled 125 assists, 23 digs, 12 kills, four blocks and three aces in 12 sets during the UT’s matches against No. 1 Wisconsin, San Diego and Boston College. Kerr is the first Lady Vol to receive the honor since Sedona Hansen earned it on October 31, 2016.

In a five-set thriller against the Badgers, she recorded the first double-double of her career after posting personal bests in assists (55) and digs (11). She led the Lady Vols in assists during all three matches on the weekend, averaging 10.42 assists per set.

Kerr narrowly missed a double-double against San Diego, going for 38 assists and nine digs. Against Boston College, she had 32 assists and helped the Big Orange attackers finish with an impressive .369 hitting percentage for the match.

This season, Kerr ranks inside the top 40 nationally in assists per set (33rd/10.43) and aces per set (40th/0.62). Her 219 assists rank second in the SEC, while 13 aces are third in the league. Both are the most among conference freshmen.

Up next, Tennessee continues its tour of the Midwest next weekend with matches against Loyola Chicago and Marquette. The Lady Vols open with Loyola on Friday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+ before facing the Golden Eagles on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. That match will be live streamed on FloSports ($).
