LAO SKYWAY, MINISTRY OF DEFENCE REIGN SUPREME OVER LAOS NATIONAL VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Bangkok, Thailand, November 4, 2022 – In-form Lao Skyway and Ministry of Defence underlined their supremacy over the 2022 Laos National Volleyball Championships at Army Indoor Stadium (Main 5) in Vientiane, with the former capturing the men’s title after a 3-0 demolition of Ministry of Defence in the Friday’s showdown.

The championships, which kicked off in both men’s and women’s events on October 29, came to a successful conclusion on Friday, with cash prizes being given away to respective top four teams in both events.

In the men’s semifinals on Thursday, Ministry of Defence recovered from the first set down to beat Grow Up VC 3-1 (19-25, 25-17 and 25-18, 25-18) to advance to the Friday’s showdown, while Laos Skyway also powered past Vientiane Capital with the same margin 3-1 to secure their final berth with the exceptional 25-16, 25-20, 14-25, 25-15 win.

In the Friday’s final clash, Lao Skyway, which emerged as the Pool A winners, went up against Ministry of Defence, which also made a clean sweep in Pool B.

Against the strong Ministry of Defence, Lao Skyway got off a to brilliant start as they lived up to all expectations with their good form to capture the first two sets 25-20, 25-16. However, Ministry of Defence gave it all out in the third set, aiming to come back and keep their hopes of winning the title alive.

Still, Lao Skyway remained in superb form to overcome the strong opponents in the hard-fought third set 25-23. To clinch the men’s title in the country’s one-week topflight championship, Lao Skyway did not drop a single set to their respective rivals to capture the men’s title with remarkable unbeaten record.

Earlier in the Friday morning third-place playoff, Vientiane Capital proved a class above Grow Up VC to pull off a thrilling 25-13, 25-20, 21-25, 26-24 win for bronze medal. Grow Up VC ended in fourth place.

In the women’s event, Army Politics downed Vientiane Club in straight sets 25-19, 25-19, 25-13, while Ministry of Defence brushed off Vientiane Capital 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-13) in the semifinals on Thursday, leaving Army Politics to battle it out with Ministry of Defence for the crown.
