Lewis Men’s Volleyball Defeats No. 9 Ball State in Five-Set Thriller to Open MIVA Play Thursday

MUNCIE, Ind. — The Lewis University men’s volleyball used all five sets to defeat No. 9 Ball State, 3-2, to open up Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play Thursday (Feb. 9).

SET BREAKDOWN

FIRST SET: Lewis 25, Ball State 22

  • Both teams scored four points each before Lewis rallied off four straight capped off by a block by Antonio Rodriguez-Elias (Naranjito, Puerto Rico/Colegio Sagrada Familia) and Roquet.
  • Moments later, John Davis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) extended the Flyers lead to 14-8 after recording a kill. 
  • Ball State looked to come back as the Cardinals cut it down to 18-14 then Roquet and Rodriguez-Elias recorded back-to-back kills. 
  • The Cardinals cut it down to one (23-22) but then Lewis picked up straight points including the game-winning point by Roquet and Sack. 

SECOND SET: Ball State 25, Lewis 19

  • Both teams each scored seven points each before Ball State scored two straight to make it 9-7. 
  • Moments later, the Cardinals went ahead 16-12 before went on a 4-1 rally after a kill from Prayer to cut it down to  one.
