Lewis Men’s Volleyball Drops Home Match Against Ohio State Thursday


ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University men’s volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at home against Ohio State on Thursday evening (March 30).

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: Ohio State 25, Lewis 23

  • Both teams went back-and-fourth to start the first trading six points each.
  • Ohio State was the first team to create a gap within the score after a kill that gave them an 11-8 lead.
  • Lewis rallied back and after a kill by Roquet, assisted by Morgan, the set was tied at 16.
  • Both Lewis and Ohio State traded points and were tied at 21 before the Buckeyes score of the final six points to win the first set.

SECOND SET: Ohio State 28, Lewis 26

  • The second set was even more competitive than the first, but Lewis was the first team to strike as they got out to a 5-1 lead after back-to-back kills from Prayer and Cole Brillhart (York, Pa./Northeastern)
  • Ohio State notched four kills over the next nine possessions to tie the set at eight.
  • Both teams made separate scoring runs but neither team was able to earn a lead larger than four.
  • Every time Ohio State would seem to have the edge, the Flyers would answer as John Davis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) served an ace to tie the set at 20, followed by a Roquet kill that tied the set at 24.
  • Tied at 26, Ohio State was able to close the second set out with a kill and an error by the Flyers.

THIRD SET: Ohio State 25, Lewis 19

  • To begin the third set, the Flyers were playing from behind as Ohio State recorded three early kills to give themselves a 4-1 advantage.
  • Lewis would earn its first lead of the set at 9-8 after a Roquet and Prayer had consecutive kills.
  • Ohio State was able to recover the lead and not relinquish it for the remainder of the set.
  • Leading 20-17, Ohio State scored five of the remaining seven points to close out the match.
