Lewis Men's Volleyball Falls at Loyola-Chicago in Regular Season Finale Saturday


CHICAGO – The No. 14 Lewis University men’s volleyball team lost, 3-0, at No. 12 Loyola-Chicago Saturday (April 6) to finish the regular season. The Flyers finish the season in a three-way tie for fifth place in the MIVA with McKendree and Purdue Fort Wayne at 8-8. The tiebreaker gives Lewis the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament.
 
Lewis and Loyola-Chicago honored the Rae Strong Foundation before the match and the Ramblers announced a donation to Rae Strong of $2 for every ticket sold for the match. For more information, visit raestrong.com.

SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: Loyola-Chicago 25, Lewis 16
Loyola grabbed a 7-3 lead early as Lewis struggled to gain momentum. The Flyers pushed back with a 3-1 charge to cut the deficit to 10-7 after a kill by Drolsum.
 
The Ramblers got going with a 5-0 run to build the lead to 18-9. Both sides traded points from there, with Loyola earning the set win on a Lewis attack error.
 
Set 2: Loyola-Chicago 25, Lewis 18
The Ramblers took an early 3-0 lead after two straight service aces. Lewis later had an ace of its own from Roquet that cut the deficit to 8-6.
 
The Flyers later took four of six points to get within one, 12-11, after a kill by Roquet. Loyola pulled back ahead with a 4-0 charge that made it 17-12 before a service error and another Roquet kill got Lewis back within three.
 
Unfortunately for the Flyers, that was as close as it would get the remainder of the set as the Ramblers finished off set two with a pair of kills.
 
Set 3: Loyola-Chicago 25, Lewis 21
After Loyola took the first two points, Lewis got even with kills by Drolsum and Todorov. The Ramblers took the next four points, but the Flyers came right back with three in a row including two kills from Roquet to make it 6-5.
 
The back-and-forth runs continued with Loyola taking the next three points and…
