COLUMBUS, Ohio. – The No. 14 Lewis University men’s volleyball team was swept by No. 7 Ohio State Thursday (Feb. 29).

SET BREAKDOWN

Set 1: Ohio State 25, Lewis 23

The receiving team scored each of the first nine points in the match before Ohio State earned back-to-back service aces and a Lewis attack error made it 8-4 Buckeyes which led to a timeout by the Flyers. After the timeout, Lewis went on a 7-1 charge with two kills and two blocks, one solo by Morgan, to take an 11-9 lead.

Things went back-and-forth from there until three straight kills from Ohio State made it 14-13 Buckeyes. The Flyers pushed right back with a 6-1 run including a kill and an ace by Haber to take a 19-15 advantage.

Ohio State refused to go down, however, going on a 6-0 charge in response with three aces to grab a 21-19 lead. Lewis was able to get the score tied at 23 but two more kills by the Buckeyes finished the first set.

Set 2: Ohio State 25, Lewis 17

Ohio State started set two with a run much like the one that gave it the lead in set one, going up 8-0 with three aces early. The Flyers couldn’t find their footing, as the Buckeyes kept charging and were able to extend the lead to 12-2.

Wymoczyl finally earned the first kill of the set for Lewis, kicking off a 6-2 run including three kills from Baggs to make it 14-8. Both sides traded points from that point until it was 20-14 in favor of OSU.

The Buckeyes then used a 4-1 run to reach set point and finished its second set win with another kill.

Set 3: Ohio State 25, Lewis 17

Ohio State ran ahead early, using a 4-0 run to grab a 4-1 lead and later bringing the lead to four points, 8-4. From there, both teams traded points for an extended period until another 4-0 push from the Buckeyes made it 18-11.

The Flyers finally secured back-to-back points for the first time in the set to make it 22-15, but a service error…
