ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 14 Lewis University men’s volleyball team swept Quincy, 3-0, Saturday (March 16) at Neil Carey Arena.

SET BREAKDOWN

Set 1: Lewis 25, Quincy 23

Quincy used a 3-0 run to take a 5-2 lead early in the first set. Things went back-and-forth from there until the Hawks led, 11-7.

Lewis then went on a 3-0 run with kills by Piotr Wymoczyl (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove HS) and Drolsum to get within a point at 11-10. Quincy had a strong response, though, taking six of the next eight points to go ahead 17-12.

The Flyers went on the charge after that, using a 7-2 run to tie the score at 19. During the run, four different Lewis players earned a kill and Drolsum picked up a service ace.

The Hawks took the next two points to go up 21-19, but the Flyers then grabbed four of the next five with two kills by Roquet to take a 23-22 lead, its first of the set. After Quincy took the next point, a kill by Drolsum and block by Roquet, Baggs and Drolsum finished the set in favor of Lewis.

Set 2: Lewis 25, Quincy 18

Set two was all Flyers after a 4-0 charge including back-to-back kills for Roquet put Lewis ahead 9-5. Moments later, a 7-2 Flyer run made it 16-8, with Drolsum picking up two kills during the charge.

The Hawks were able to push back with a 4-0 run that made it 19-14 but that was as close as it would get. An attack error by Quincy finished the set, which saw Lewis hit an outstanding .609 while holding the Hawks to just .042.

Set 3: Lewis 25, Quincy 23

Quincy pushed ahead early in set three with a 4-0 run to make it 5-2. The Flyers came back with four of the next five points including kills by Drolsum and Roquet to tie the score at 6-6.

The Hawks went right back into the lead with another 4-0 push that made it 10-6. Lewis was able to get back to within one after a 4-1 charge including an ace by Roquet set the score at 12-11.

Later, the Flyers pushed ahead after a 6-2 run started by a pair of kills by Drolsum made it 20-18 Flyers….
