Lewis’ Mitchem And Kauling Earn All-MIVA Accolades


ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University’s Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) and Kevin Kauling (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) were named to the All-MIVA team on Thursday (April 14). Mitchem landed on the first team while Kauling was selected to the second team.

Mitchem leads the MIVA and the nation in hitting percentage at .462 and in blocks with 1.37 per set. He had a career-high 20 kills in the 3-1 win at Ohio State on March 31. Mitchem has reached double figures in kills 16 times this season and recorded a season-high nine blocks against McKendree on March 17. This is his fourth First Team All-MIVA honor and his fifth overall.

Kauling leads the nation with two triple-doubles this season and is eighth in the conference in assists with 7.69 per set. He had a career-high 10 kills and 12 digs to go along with 29 set assists in the five-set win over Grand Canyon on Feb. 5 for his first career triple-double and then a month later had 10 kills, 36 assists and 12 digs in the four-set win over McKendree on March 17. This is Kauling’s third All-MIVA accolade.

The Flyers, seeded fourth, host fifth seeded Ohio State in the first round of the MIVA Tournament this Saturday (April 16) at 6 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.
