Lewis Women's Volleyball Season Comes to an End During NCAA DII Midwest Regional Against Hillsdale Thursday


QUINCY, Ill. — The Lewis University women’s volleyball team saw their season come to an end as the Flyers dropped their NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Quarterfinals matchup against Hillsdale College, 3-2, at Pepsi Arena hosted by Quincy University Thursday.

SET BREAKDOWN

FIRST SET: Hillsdale 25, Lewis 16

  • Hillsdale jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the opening set of the contest.
  • Lewis responded and got the next two points after a kill by Schlechte and a block from Van Loo and Farah Taki (North Aurora, Ill./West Aurora).
  • Moments later, the Flyers cut it down to 10-8 before the Chargers scored five in a row to make it 15-8.
  • Van Loo tried to put Lewis back in the set after recording a kill but Hillsdale was one step ahead.
  • The Chargers ended up winning 25-16.

SECOND SET: Lewis 25, Hillsdale 18

  • Both teams each traded 12 points each to start the second set.
  • Mikah Freppon (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) and Schlechte gave Lewis a 14-12 lead after recording back-to-back kills and gave Lewis the lead for good in the second set.
  • Hillsdale tried to pull closer in the set but a pair of kills from Van Loo and one from Ray, made it 23-16 in favor of Lewis.
  • The Flyers ended up winning the second set 25-18 and tied it at 1-1.

THIRD SET: Hillsdale 25, Lewis 22

  • Lewis jumped out to an early 7-4 lead after a couple of kills from Ray and Stefanski. 
  • Hillsdale had the response right back and scored six unanswered points to grab a 10-7 advantage.
  • The Flyers were able to bounce back and tie the third set at 10-all.
  • Both teams would go back and forth most of the remaining of the third set. 
  • The Chargers closed out the third set on a 6-3 rally after it was tied 19-19 to win the third set 25-22.
