ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — The Lewis University women’s volleyball team swept Drury 3-0 to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Neil Carey Arena Saturday.

SET BREAKDOWN vs. Drury
Set 1: Lewis 25, Drury 16
Drury scored the opening point then Lewis scored five straight which was started by Juliana Van Loo (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs). Drury tried to respond and made it 8-5 Lewis but the Flyers rallied off three straight points which was started by a kill from Schlechte.
Moments later, Schlechte made it 17-10 late in the first set then the Panthers scored five in a row to cut it down to 17-15 Lewis. The Flyers responded with a 8-1 rally including two kills from Van Loo to end of the set to win 25-18.
Set 2: Lewis 25, Drury 21
Lewis went up 3-2 early in the second set before Drury responded with four straight points to make it 6-3. The Flyers were able to respond after back-to-back kills from Ray and Schlechte to make it 6-5 Panthers.
Drury scored the next point which made it 7-5 before Lewis scored four straight including a pair of kills from Schlechte and one from Stenman which made it 9-7. The Flyers were able to hold onto its lead the rest of the second set.
Ray recorded a pair of kills to give the Flyers a 18-14 lead as Lewis never let its lead get lower than two the rest of the way. Lewis won the second set 25-21 after recording back-to-back points.
Set 3: Lewis 25, Drury 22
Lewis recorded the opening point after a kill from Van Loo then Drury rallied for five straight points to make it 5-1 Panthers. The Flyers responded with back-to-back points including an ace from Schlechte to cut it down to 5-3 but the Panthers bounced back and scored four straight to extend its lead out to 9-3.
