Outside Hitter Becomes First Cal Player To Earn Award Three Times

The Pac-12 Conference named California volleyball’s Maggie Li Freshman of the Week for the third straight time Monday, breaking a program record for freshman awards earned by a single player.
ย
Li is also the first athlete in Cal volleyball history to win Pac-12 honors in three consecutive weeks. The newcomer collected 61 kills, 50 digs and 75 points โ€“ as well as six blocks, six service aces and three assists โ€“ over four games, including three straight double-doubles, to clinch the nod. She is currently one of the top freshman players in the nation, ranking second among all rookies in both kills (128) and points (150), as well as fifth in points per set (4.69), seventh in kills per set (4.0) and ninth in service aces per set (0.53).
ย
“Maggie attacks every day of practice with the same consistent energy to get better, regardless of what happened in the previous practice or match,” assistant coach Savannah Rennie said. “She is very coachable and continues to elevate her game each weekend, learning from both what was successful and what wasn’t. Her love for the game is seen on and off the court, and our squad recognizes that โ€“ I think that love has definitely contributed to our success as a program.”
ย
Li and the undefeated Golden Bears (9-0) will take to the court this weekend at the Wolf Pack Invitational in Reno, Nevada with a Friday matchup against Montana State (7-1) and a Saturday showdown with Nevada (3-6).
