COLUMBIA, Ky. – Other than practices and the occasional open gym, the Biggers Sports Center has been relatively quiet over the last two weeks. That, however, will not be the case this weekend as the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team (5-7, 1-1 MSC) welcomes two conference foes to its friendly, home confines.

After opening their league schedule on the road in the Volunteer State, the Blue Raiders are hoping to build some momentum with two more Tennessee-based rivals coming to town.

Freed-Hardeman University (8-4, 1-0 MSC) is first up on the docket for this weekend. The Lions, who are scheduled to compete at Campbellsville on Thursday evening, have won seven of their last nine matches, including their conference opener at Bethel back on September 6.

Sophomore outside hitter Jayden Watkins actively leads the team with 157 kills and is the only Lion to have at least 100 successful attacks on the season. Her fellow position player Kacey Donegan ranks second on the lineup in three major statistical categories, having compiled 130 digs, 84 kills, and 22 service aces.

As a team, Freed-Hardeman sits 10th in the country from the service line with 112 total aces. Their seven aces against Bethel last week were the fewest by the Lions in their last eight outings.

The Wildcats (8-3, 0-2 MSC) come into Columbia on Saturday in the midst of a conference dry spell. Most recently, the team dropped a five-set decision against Campbellsville despite storming back to force the tiebreaker.

Senior Hannah McGowan is the primary catalyst behind the ‘Cats’ offense, as she currently paces her squad with 157 kills and 10 service aces. The outside attacker also ranks second with 128 digs.

Overall, Bethel is hitting just under 18 percent while averaging 12.3 kills per set.

On the other side of these matchups, the Blue Raiders sport a 0.215 attack mark, highlighted by a handful of offensive weapons. Alix Stoermer and Savanah Pippin, who boast individual percentages of 0.346 and 0.324, respectively, have been on the floor for all 41 sets played so far this season, and have a combined 4.4 kills per set average. Their teammates Alexis Smith and Camryn Rich cracked into Lindsey Wilson’s all-time top five in career kills and assists, respectively, and are poised to continue climbing in the ranks as conference season sets into high gear.
