LEBANON, Tenn. – At Dallas Floyd Arena, the homestanding Phoenix overcame an early one-set deficit, rallying off a 3-1 decision to effectively end the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team’s road conference-opening win streak after six matches.

The Blue Raiders (4-7, 0-1 MSC) won the evening’s first frame despite narrowly fending off a late Cumberland march, but the hosts got the better of their visitor over the subsequent three sets, winning each by no more than five points.

Junior Madison Bidwell surpassed 500-career kills behind a team-leading 12 successful attacks, including five in the opening set, while senior Alexis Smith returned to the lineup to contribute 10 kills.

Also returning to the Blue Raiders’ cast on Thursday night were fellow senior Camryn Rich and freshman Aleksandra Wyrzkowska. The first of which managed her fourth consecutive double-double and sixth of the season with 35 assists and 13 digs, and Wyrzkowska chipped in two kills.

With the score knotted at 5-5, a kill by Smith sparked an 8-0 run by the locals to push them ahead 13-5. Cumberland fought back, however, with an 8-2 stretch later on, but what the Blue Raiders had built up was enough to clinch the set, 25-21.

In the second set, Lindsey Wilson improved on its hitting percentage from the previous frame by almost ten percent. A quick three-point advantage by the home side, nevertheless, gave them just enough to hold on, 25-21, and tie the match at one set apiece.

After storming back to win the following set, the Phoenix, again, used a late run to create some space in the deciding fourth, eventually winning 25-20 to seal the deal.

As a team, Lindsey Wilson finished with a 0.175 attack mark, as the…
