COLUMBIA, Ky. – Since beginning the home portion of its 2022 schedule earlier this month, the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team has battled the likes of bearcats, tigers, wildcats, and lions inside of Biggers Sports Center. On Tuesday, the Blue Raiders will take a step away from the beasts of the Mid-South to welcome the University of the Cumberlands Patriots to Columbia.
The red, white, and blue of Williamsburg were at one point riding the longest active win streak in the conference, but that came to a screeching halt two weeks ago in Georgetown, and now the Pats (12-5, 2-2 MSC) are vying for their first win since September 10 at Shawnee State.
Lindsey Wilson will not be an easy foe for Cumberlands to snap its skid against. In fact, the Blue Raiders have 16 of their last 17 meetings with the Patriots, including each of the last 11. Furthermore, all of those 16 victories have been decided by three-set sweeps.
Two-time Mid-South Attacker of the Week Allyson Grava could have a lot to say this week. The sophomore outside-hitter actively leads the conference with 235 total kills and ranks second with an average kills per set mark of 3.79. She enters Tuesday with seven consecutive outings of ten or more successful attacks, including a performance of 23 versus Shawnee State.
Grava is set up largely by the setting efforts of fellow sophomore Kendall Arnold, whose 530 total assists sit behind only one other setter in the Mid-South.
Defensively, Juliet Banks, who has received weekly honors from the Mid-South once already this season and is also a sophomore, paces the league with 320 digs but is second to Thomas More’s Asia Ferrando by 0.01 on average digs per frame.
The Patriots’ sophomore trio was limited to just 11 digs and two assists when Cumberlands and Lindsey Wilson met in 2021.
The Blue Raiders are currently in a small drought of their own, having lost back-to-back matches at home for the first time in over a decade.
Alix Stoermer, Savanah Pippin, and Madison Bidwell make up a significant bulk of the local’s attack with 116, 115, and 113 kills, respectively. Combined, the trio is hitting 0.270, compared to the Patriot’s top three attackers, 0.217.
Passing out dimes for Lindsey Wilson continues to be senior Camryn Rich. Her 435 assists rank fifth in the conference, while her average of 8.70 sits one spot higher.
On the defensive side of the ball, Natalie Ackermann is posting the…
