COLUMBIA, Ky. – At the Biggers Sports Center, the (RV) Lindsey Wilson volleyball team snapped a five-game drought with an emphatic three-set sweep of Brescia University.
The Blue Raiders’ attack was critical after a slow start, as they posted their third-highest hitting percentage of the season while also committing fewer than ten errors for just the second time.
Elizabeth Moore and Savanah Pippin were dominant on offense to pace the home side’s efforts, recording ten kills each behind a combined 0.607 attack percentage.
The visitors stepped up to the challenge early on, opening a 7-3 lead to push their opposition on their toes. Lindsey Wilson was quick to brush off the Bearcats from that point, utilizing a subsequent 8-4 stretch to draw the set level at 11-11, followed by a 14-6 run to clinch the evening’s opening set.
In the middle frame, Brescia fell into a series of errors, clearing the way for the Blue Raiders to build a lead in the double-digits, from which they never looked back to a convincing 25-11 set win.
The locals needed little time to generate some traction in what proved to be the night’s final set. After the two sides traded scores to get things started, Lindsey Wilson went on an 8-3 run to move ahead 10-5 and eventually ride that momentum to their third clean sheet of the year.
Aiding the Blue Raiders’ attack on Friday night with a career-high 22 assists was Monika Szwarc. The freshman also contributed five of her team’s 33 total digs.
Natalie Ackermann and Elisa Burzio chipped in 13 and 8 digs, respectively, and Madison Bidwell had an outstanding showing from the service line with a personal-best four aces.
All told, Lindsey Wilson hit just shy of 30 percent at 0.299, out-killing their opponent 32-24.
Next on the docket for the Blue Raiders is the start of the conference schedule, which…
