Loreen And Robinson Make AVP History At Manhattan Beach

Chloe Loreen and Natalie Robinson made history in only their second professional beach volleyball tournament as they became the first No. 32-seeds ever to upset the No. 1 seed in any AVP tournament, scoring the huge win in the first round of the Manhattan Beach Open tournament.

The Husky alums battled a highly contested three set match as the top ranked pairing fought to the last point. Robinson and Loreen faced a tough battle against Julia Scoles, a former back-to-back National Champion and All-American from conference rival University of Southern California, as well as a Betsi Flint, a standout player from Loyola Marymount University. Loreen and Robinson ultimately prevailed, 21-19, 15-21, 15-12.

The Huskies continued their winning ways by sweeping their second-round match on Friday against the No. 16 team in the bracket. The duo from Montlake battled a two-time NCAA National Runner-up in Macy Jerger and the second LMU athlete Megan Rice. The duo fell in two set in the quarter finals against another Pac-12 foe from UCLA and a former Wisconsin Badger.

The duo wrapped up their tournament run with a three set loss against Brook Bauer and Megan Rice as the talented pair finished in 9th-place overall.

Loreen and Robinson finished their Husky careers as the two winningest beach players in school history. They became UW’s first ever First Team All-Americans this year.
