Both Advance To National Ballot

California volleyball’s Annalea Maeder and Sam Taumoepeau have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division I Academic All-District Team for the second consecutive year, the CSC announced Tuesday. Both will advance to the Academic All-America ballot, with voting concluding on Dec. 19.

To qualify for Academic All-District consideration, athletes must have an academic standing of sophomore or above and at least a 3.50 grade point average. They must compete in 90 percent of their institution’s sets or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution’s total matches.

Maeder, a junior majoring in microbial biology, set career highs in assists (1,037), digs (286), aces (46), kills (81) and blocks (44), the first of which was her first 1,000-assist campaign and the most by any Golden Bear since 2015. Her 46 service aces ranked third in the Pac-12 this season and tied for 10th in program history. She currently sits at sixth on Cal’s all-time aces list with 116 and seventh on the all-time assists list with 2,584.

Taumoepeau, who will graduate this winter with a philosophy degree, likewise set significant career highs in kills (332), digs (221), aces (33), blocks (39) and assists (33). She earned two All-Tournament nods prior to conference play and posted a 20-kill performance against eventual NCAA Tournament team Southeastern Louisiana in September. Taumoepeau ended the season with five double-doubles to her name, third-most on the team.

The CSC Volleyball Academic All-Americans will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
