COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland volleyball head coach Adam Hughes has received a five-year contract extension taking his contract to Dec. 31, 2027, as announced by Damon Evans, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics at the University of Maryland.
“Adam has taken our volleyball program to the next level in the last few years and we are thrilled that he will be leading our Terps into the future,” said Evans. “Playing in the best volleyball conference in the nation, Adam has elevated the overall performance of our program and that was evidenced by last season’s undefeated start and the landmark victory over the eventual National Champion Wisconsin. Under Adam’s leadership, Maryland volleyball has a very bright future ahead and we are excited for what’s next.”

It’s an honor coaching these student-athletes and helping them achieve their goals. This past season was an incredible step on the journey and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
Led by Hughes, the Terps finished last fall with one of their most successful seasons in program history. The team’s 19 wins were the most since 2010 while the team’s seven Big Ten wins were the most since 2018. Maryland came out of the gate firing as it began the season 13-0, the best beginning since 2005.
One of the biggest nights in Maryland volleyball history came on September 24, 2021, as Hughes and his Terps downed eventual National Champion Wisconsin in five sets. The victory was the program’s first-ever win over a Top-Ten team, let alone a team ranked second in the nation.
Statistically, the Terps have been on the best blocking teams for the past few years. As a team, the squad finished 2021 with 3.11 blocks per set, the only NCAA team above a 3.01. Individually, Rainelle Jones led the nation with 1.73 blocks per set.
Hughes’ impact can be felt in the stands as the XFINITY Pavilion has consistently been a raucous environment for visiting teams. Last season featured three of the top five attendance marks in XFINITY Pavilion history.
