McKim Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sophomore Shelby McKim of the Union College women’s volleyball team was recognized for her play on the court and success in the classroom with a spot on the 2024 Academic All-District Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators and announced on Tuesday.

To be nominated for College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of or start at least 66 percent of an institution’s matches, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and reach sophomore athletic and academic standing at the school. Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.

McKim started 29-of-30 matches as a sophomore, ranking fourth on the team with 145 kills and 35 service aces, while hitting .281 and adding 60 blocks to rank second on the squad in both categories. Among Liberty League performers, she ranked seventh in hitting percentage and ninth in blocks per set. She recorded a career-high 13 kills in a four-set victory over Skidmore College in October and put down a career-best eight blocks on two occasions against Williams College and Clarkson University. The psychology major was named to the Liberty League All-Academic Team this season as well.

In her first two seasons at Union, McKim has recorded 225 kills on .272 hitting with 83 blocks in 155 sets.

With McKim’s honor, Union student-athletes have now earned 230 Academic All-District honors since 2001.
