Men’s Volleyball Falls in Season Opener at Eastern

St. DAVIDS, Pa.- The Immaculata University men’s volleyball team dropped their season opening match on the road at Eastern University 3-0 on Thursday evening.

In the first set, Eastern jumped out to an early 6-2 lead. Immaculata would close the Eastern lead to 14-10 on a block by Michael Prall and Jack Debes, and a service ace from Brandon Lieberman. Immaculata would climb back to within three later in the set at 19-16 with a kill from Josh McGurl and a pair of kills from Brandon Lieberman. Eastern would use a six-point run to take the first set 25-16.

In set two, Eastern again took an early 5-1 lead, and followed with a seven-point run to take a commanding 13-3 lead. Immaculata would get a pair of kills from Josh McGurl later in the set, but Eastern would go on to take set two 25-11.

In set three, Immaculata opened a 3-0 lead on a service ace by Joe Martell, and then took a 4-1 lead on a kill by Jack Debes. Eastern responded with an eight-point run to take a 9-4 lead. Jack Debes broke the run for Immaculata with a kill. Immaculata would get kills from Luke Inniss, Jack Debes, and Josh McGurl, and a service ace from Luke Inniss later in the set. Eastern would go on to close out the match win taking set three 25-16.

Immaculata was led by Joe Martell who distributed 11 assists, had two service aces, and two digs. Josh McGurl had a team high six kills, and three digs. Brandon Lieberman had three kills, one service ace, two blocks, and three digs. Jack Debes had two kills, and one dig. Luke Inniss had one kill, and one service ace.
