Men’s Volleyball Falls in Tri-Match with Hood and Thiel

FREDERICK, Md. – The Immaculata University Men’s Volleyball team traveled to Hood College for a tri-match on Saturday. The Mighty Macs fell to Hood College 3-2 before falling to Thiel College 3-0 in their second match.

In their first match with Hood, Immaculata was led by Josh McGurl with 15 kills, eight digs, and three blocks. Jack Debes had 10 kills, six blocks, and seven digs. Joe Martel had four kills, distributed 38 assists, had one service ace, six blocks, and 12 digs. Michael Prall had seven kills, and nine digs. Matthew Pfister had a team high 27 digs for the Mighty Macs.

In the first set, Josh McGurl had a kill that put Immaculata up 13-11. Hood would use a four-point run to regain the lead 15-13. Hood then used a 7-2 run to take set one 25-20.

In set two Joe Martel served three consecutive points as Immaculata led early 3-0. Michael Prall served three straight points that included a kill from Joe Martel, and a block from Josh McGurl as Immaculata led 9-5. Brandon Fox served four straight points, as Immaculata would go on to take set two 25-22.

In set three, Joe Martel served three straight points to put Immaculata ahead 4-2. With Immaculata trailing 21-20, Immaculata would use a 5-2 run to take set three 25-23.

In set four, the teams exchanged the led. Brandon Lieberman served consecutive points to pull Immaculata even at 17-17. Josh McGurl earned a side out on a kill to even the score at 18-18. Hood used a five-point run on their way to evening the match taking the set 25-21 to force a deciding set.
