Men’s Volleyball Falls to Russell Sage in Hard Fought Match

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University men’s volleyball team was back on the court as the hosted Russell Sage College at Alumnae Hall. Immaculata fell to Russell Sage three games to one (24-26, 16-25, and 34-36) in a hard-fought match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Immaculata was led by Josh McGurl who had a career best 22 kills to go along with one service ace, 11 digs, and one total block. Jack Debes had five kills, and five digs. Michael Prall had four kills, and eight digs. Brandon Lieberman had four kills, and seven digs. Christian Lee had three kills, and three digs. Joe Martell distributed 31 assists, had three service aces, and six digs. Matthew Pfister had a team high 10 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first set Russell Sage went up 3-0, before Immaculata earned the next three points to even the score at 3-3. Josh McGurl had a kill for the side out and followed by serving consecutive points. Trailing 24-21 later in the set, Immaculata rallied to tie the score at 24-24 as Brandon Lieberman served back-to-back points including a service ace. Russell Sage followed with consecutive points to take set one 26-24.

In set two, Joe Martell tied the score serving three consecutive service aces to put Immaculata ahead 4-3. Russell Sage responded with a pair of six-point runs on their way to taking set two 25-16.

Immaculata refused to go quietly, opening set three with Joe Martell serving three straight points to take an early 3-0 lead. With the score tied at 8-8, Brandon Lieberman served three straight points to give Immaculata a 12-8 lead. Josh McGurl later served four…
