IMMACULATA, Pa.- Fresh off their best season in program history, head coach Rob Smith and the Immaculata University men’s volleyball team is set to open their 2024 season, tonight when the visit Eastern University.
FIRST SERVE
In 2023, Immaculata rebounded from an early six match losing streak, to win seven out of their last ten, and their last five matches in a row to finish the season with a 10-10 record. This was a program record for wins, and the first time the team finished with a .500 winning percentage on the season.
Immaculata will be in their second season playing an NCAA Division III Independent schedule, and their 2024 schedule will include 18 matches.
Roster Check
Immaculata will be led by three seniors Jack Debes (Oreland, Pa./Roman Catholic), Joe Martell (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury), and Thomas Pierce (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark’s). Debes finished third on the team in kills with 122 and led the team in blocks with 27.0. Martell, the team’s primary setter broke his own program single season record for assists with 462 and distributed his 1,000th career assist vs Bryn Athyn on March 14, 2023. He is the program’s all-time leader in assists. Pierce finished third on the team in blocks with 16.0 total blocks.
Juniors Brandon Fox (Allentown, Pa./Palisades), Matthew Pfister (Burlington, N.J./Doane Academy), and Evan Timlin (Schwenksville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) will look to provide the Macs a veteran presence on the floor. Pfister, a defensive specialist and Libero had a team high 140 digs.
Welcome Aboard
In addition to the returning veterans, Immaculata welcomes talented newcomers that will look to make an immediate impart including sophomore Luke Inniss (Athol, MA. / Athol), and freshmen Christian Lee (Ellicott City, Md./Marriott’s Ridge), Brandon Lieberman (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley), Josh McGurl (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove), Ethan Ngo (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley), and Michael Prall (Middletown DE).

Immaculata will open their season on the road tonight when they play at Eastern University at 7:00 PM, before heading to Bryn Athyn on January 21st for a tri-match with Saint Lawrence, and Bryn Athyn starting at 5:00 PM. The Mighty Macs will return home to Alumnae Hall on January 27th for their home opener vs Arcadia at 1:00 PM.
