UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Jess Mruzik, a senior outside hitter for Penn State Women’s Volleyball, was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday. She earned the award for the second time this season after strong performances in sweeps over Big Ten foes Rutgers and Northwestern.
Mruzik put up huge numbers in both conference victories, averaging 6.00 kills/set and 2.33 digs/set while hitting .525 for the week. She totaled 18 kills in both three-set matches, hitting .533 against Rutgers and .517 against Northwestern. Penn State improved to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in league play while upping its winning streak to four matches.
With double-digit kills in nine of 11 matches this season, Mruzik ranks second in the Big Ten and ninth nationally in points/set (5.24) and third in the Big Ten and 11th nationally in kills/set (4.56).
It was the third career Big Ten Player of the Week honor for Mruzik. She is the first Penn State player to earn the award twice in a season since Haleigh Washington won it five times in 2017.
The 15th-ranked Nittany Lions continue Big Ten play with matches at Illinois on Friday at 9 p.m. ET, and at Minnesota on Saturday at 9 p.m. ET. Both matches will air live on B1G Network.
