NCAA Opener vs Southeastern Louisiana

EUGENE, Ore. – Sixth-ranked and No. 2 seed Oregon opens its 2023 postseason Thursday night, hosting Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana at Matthew Knight Arena. First serve is set for 7 p.m. Tournament matches will be streamed on ESPN+ with additional coverage of the opening round on The 5^th Set in-studio show, also available through the streaming service.
 
The first match of the day in the Oregon quad will feature Iowa State and Hawai’i at 4 p.m. The winner of each match advances to Friday’s second round (7 p.m.) to play for a spot in the Sweet 16.

With the help of their 26-5 record and six top-25 wins, the Ducks earned the program’s 20^th appearance in the NCAA Tournament when the bracket was revealed Sunday on ESPN. It is Oregon’s sixth selection under head coach Matt Ulmer. The Ducks are hosting in back-to-back seasons for the first time and for the seventh time overall (1984, ’86, 2012, ’14, ’18, ’22, ’23).
 
Series Info vs Southeastern Louisiana
Thursday will mark the first-ever meeting between Oregon and Southeastern Louisiana. The Lady Lions enter the postseason with a 28-4 record and riding a 22-match winning streak, the third longest in the country behind Dayton (26) and Western Kentucky (24). SLU faced two Pac-12 teams during the season, taking sets off Cal and Washington but losing in four to both.
 
Last Time Out
Oregon closed out its regular season with a straight-set win at Oregon State (Nov. 25). Mimi Colyer led the way with a season-high 21 kills while hitting .425 in the sweep. Collectively, the Ducks posted a .340 hitting percentage and registered 11.0 total team blocks. With the result, Oregon matched last season’s win total (26) and head into the postseason having won nine of its last 10 including five in a row.

A program-record five Ducks were named to the All-Pac-12 Team (Nov. 27), surpassing the previous UO record of three (2008, ’12, ’22). The 18-player team, as voted on by the league’s head coaches, included Mimi Colyer, Gabby Gonzales, Morgan Lewis, Kara McGhee and Hannah Pukis.
