NCAA volleyball: Big win for A&M; Citadel is 15-0; Wisconsin, Louisville, Arkansas win

Florida went five for the fifth time in a row, but this Texas A&M got the better of the Gators.

The Citadel set a program record for victories in a season as it improved to 15-0, Wisconsin swept Ohio State and Arkansas crushed Auburn in a battle of ranked SEC teams.

Thursday’s schedule features some key matchups, starting with the first Big 12 meeting between BYU, the No. 8 team in the VolleyballMag.com Super 16, at No. 10 Texas. Also in the Big 12, Texas Tech is at TCU and Oklahoma is at UCF in their first conference match.

There’s a big MAC match when 12-2 Western Michigan entertains Bowling Green and two of the top Sun Belt teams, both 9-4, go at it when Texas State is at James Madison. Two top Mountain West teams face off when UNLV (10-4) goes to Wyoming (11-2).

AGGIES UPSET FLORIDA: Texas A&M (10-3 2-1 SEC) had never won in Gainesville, before, but first-year coach Jamie Morrison and the Aggies held on Wednesday night for a 24-26, 25-23, 21-25, 26-24, 15-13 victory at Florida (10-2, 2-1). 

Logan Lednicky led A&M with 22 kills. She hit .390 and had six blocks and two digs. Caroline Meuth had 12 kills, two assists, two blocks and 19 digs and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla had 12 kills in 16 errorless swings to hit .750 and added an assist, seven blocks and three digs. Ava Underwood had 16 digs, six assists and three aces. A&M hit .250 as setters Nisa Buzlutepe and Margot Manning combined for 49 assists, four aces and nine digs.

Florida, the No. 4 team in the VolleyballMag.com Poll, hit .217. Kennedy Martin led with 16 kills, an ace, three blocks and nine digs. AC Fitzpatrick had 15 kills, four blocks and two digs, and Sofia Victoria had 14 kills, two digs and three blocks, one solo. Anna Dixon had six kills, an ace and six blocks, and Nnedi Okammar had four kills and five blocks. Setter Kennedy Muff had three kills in nine errorless tries, 42 assists, two aces, a block and 13 digs. Elli McKIssock had 19 digs, seven assists and two aces. Florida is 5-2 in five-set matches this season.
