NEC RED ROCKETS RETAIN JAPAN V. LEAGUE TITLE

NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki overcome unbeaten JT Marvelous Nishinomiya in last Sunday’s final

Defending champions in Japan, NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki, celebrated their ninth national women’s title after a hard-fought 3-1 (27-25, 32-30, 16-25, 25-17) upset of JT Marvelous Nishinomiya, who had been undefeated since the start of the season. 

The Sunday’s V-League final was played in front of nearly 3,000 spectators at the Takasaki Arena in Takasaki. Before that, Saitama Ageo Medics claimed the bronze after a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-18) sweep of the third-place match against Toyota Auto Body Queenseis Kariya.

27-year-old outside hitter Sarina Koga, of NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki, led the team with 26 points in the final and was named MVP of the league for the second time in a row. She headlined the Dream Team, which also featured setter Shiori Tsukada (NEC Red Rockets), opposite Andrea Drews (JT Marvelous), outside hitter Kotona Hayashi (JT Marvelous), middle blockers Alyja Daphne Santiago (JT Marvelous) and Kyoko Aoyagi (Saitama Ageo Medics), and libero Manami Kojima (NEC Red Rockets).
