Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 11 November 2022 – The United States claimed their fourth medal in the World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Championships on Friday at Hills Arena.
Nicky Nieves shared her thoughts about the match, following Team USA’s 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-10) triumph over Slovenia in the bronze medal match.
“Essentially, it’s really tough coming in as a super competitive squad. Our team is competitive and ultimately, we did the best that we could, and we are happy that we showed up today and going home with a bronze,” Nieves said.
“We are super fortunate and blessed to be here and we are happy that we did everything we could to bring home some hardware.”
Team USA have reached the podium of the Paralympic Games in the last five consecutive editions, first winning bronze at Athens 2004, then winning back-to-back silver medals at Beijing 2008 and London 2012, and finally back-to-back gold medal feats at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
Nieves guaranteed that even with the bronze medal win at the World Championship this year, her team will keep moving forward in the Paralympic pathway to get that spot at Paris 2024.
“We are literally just going to keep working hard. We have some new girls in our team, which is super cool. We will be continue to work hard, learn how to play with one another to get that ticket to Paris, and then go again for another gold in Paris 2024,” she said.
