Nicole Van Pelt and Blake Aronson Named SUNY Cortland Athletes of the Week


Senior women’s volleyball outside hitter Nicole Van Pelt (Montgomery/Valley Central) and graduate student men’s soccer midfielder Blake Aronson (Huntington Station/Walt Whitman) have been chosen as the SUNY Cortland Athletes of the Week for the week ending Nov. 7.

Nicole Van Pelt

Nicole was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the SUNYAC Women’s Volleyball Tournament as the Red Dragons captured their 20th league crown and first since 2012. She recorded 12 kills in a three-set win over New Paltz in the semifinals and had 16 kills in a four-set victory versus Geneseo in the finals.

Blake Aronson

Blake was named the Most Valuable Player of the SUNYAC Men’s Soccer Tournament after helping Cortland capture its 19th league title and first since 2016. He scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 semifinal victory over Buffalo State and  also scored in a 6-0 win over Oswego in the championship game.
