HONOLULU – The No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (4-1) recorded a 4-1 win over No. 5 Loyola Marymount (2-3) in the semifinals of the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic on Queen’s Beach on Saturday, Feb. 24.
The Women of Troy improved to 29-0 all-time in meetings with the Lions and go to 27-3 all-time on the Hawaiian Islands. The Trojans also improved to 138-15 when they are ranked No. 1 in the AVCA poll.
The winning point came from graduate Trojans Maddi Kriz and Grace Seits as the pair sealed the dual with a 21-11, 21-17 win at the No. 3 position over Anna Pelloia and Jacinda Ramirez.
Sophomores Gabby Walker and Madison White got a 21-15, 21-14 win over Chloe Hooker and Alisha Stevens at court four to put the first USC point on the board. Twin graduates Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse posted the second Trojan point on a 21-17, 21-17 win over Isabelle Reffel and Abbey Thorup at the No. 2 position.
The fourth Trojan point hit the scoreboard when the Trojans’ All-American seniors Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple got a 21-16, 21-15 win over Vilhelmiina Prihti and Michelle Shaffer at the top court. The Lions claimed their only point of the dual from the No. 5 position when Cassie Chin and Madi Firnett claimed a three-set win, 21-19, 14-21, 15-12, over senior Olivia Bakos and graduate Ainsley Radell.
The Women of Troy advance to the gold medal dual where they will face No. 2-ranked UCLA (3-3) in a rematch of the season-opener. The teams will meet on Queen’s Beach to conclude the Duke Kahanamoku Classic at 1 p.m. HT (3 p.m. PT).
