HONOLULU – The No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (3-1) collected a 5-0 victory over No. 9 Hawai’i (0-4) and didn’t drop a set against the Rainbow Wahine on Queen’s Beach at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic on Friday, Feb. 23.
The Women of Troy improved to 16-3 in all-time meetings against Hawai’i and went to 26-3 all-time on the Hawaiian Islands. The Trojans also improved to 137-15 when they are ranked No. 1 in the AVCA poll.
USC put the sweep into the books on a straight-set win from graduates Maddi Kriz and Grace Seits at the No. 3 position where they defeated Sydney Amiatu and Riley Wagoner, 21-14, 21-12.
The Trojans’ first dual point came from the No. 2 spot where twin graduates Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse took down Kaylee Glagau and Caprice Lorenzo, 21-10, 21-16, for their 94th-career victory as a duo. The Trojans went up, 2-0, with a 21-18, 21-18 win by sophomores Gabby Walker and Madison White over Anna Maidment and Sydney Miller at court four.
Senior Olivia Bakos and graduate Ainsley Radell claimed a 21-14, 21-15 win over Sarah Burton and Pani Napoleon to go to 2-0 on the day and posted the fourth point for the Trojans. The No. 1 pairs finished last with senior All-Americans Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple taking a 21-19, 21-14 win over Alana Embry and Jaime Santer for their 32nd win as a pair; tied for 14th all-time in program history.
The Women of Troy will advance directly to one of two semifinal matches set for either 10:15 a.m. HT or 11:30 a.m. HT (12:15 p.m. PT or 1:30 p.m.). USC’s opponent is still to be determined based on final records for each of the participating teams.
