No. 11 Women’s Volleyball Improves to 8-1 in B1G with Sweep of Iowa

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Camryn Hannah hit .409 with 12 kills and a career-high seven blocks to lead No. 11 Penn State Women’s Volleyball to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) sweep over Iowa in a Big Ten match Friday night at Rec Hall.
 
The Nittany Lions upped their record to 14-4 overall and 8-1 in the Big Ten, while Iowa dropped to 8-13 overall and 0-9 in the conference.
 
Hannah led the charge at the net as Penn State piled up an impressive 12 blocks in the three-set match, including seven in the second set alone. Taylor Trammell and Allie Holland were in on five blocks apiece.
 
Mac Podraza recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 33 assists and 10 digs. She was joined in double-digits by Gillian Grimes, who led all players with 19 digs. Anjelina Starck contributed seven.
 
Jess Mruzik finished with a match-high 14 kills on .306 hitting. Trammell and Holland added six and five kills, respectively.
 
Delaney McSweeney was strong in the middle for Iowa, hitting .444 with nine kills and four blocks.
 
Penn State remained unbeaten with a 59-0 record in the all-time series with Iowa.
 
Set 1
Mruzik led the attack with six kills on .385 hitting, and Grimes led the defense with seven digs as Penn State opened the match with a 25-19 win in set one. It was a close battle for most of the set until the Nittany Lions pulled away with a 5-0 run that put them up 21-15. Trammell had a kill and teamed with Hannah for a pair of blocks during the run. The final point of the set eventually came on a block by Holland and Podraza.
