No. 12 USC Men’s Volleyball Falls to No. 5 Grand Canyon in Rematch

LOS ANGELES – The 12th-ranked USC men’s volleyball team (6-6, 0-2 MPSF) was defeated in four sets (21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22) by fifth-ranked Grand Canyon (13-0, 2-0) at Galen Center on Friday, Feb. 17.
 
KEY PLAYERS

  • Gr. OH Kevin Kobrine led the Trojans with 17.0 points on 14 kills (1e, 32att, .406) to go with nine digs, and five blocks. 
  • Fr. OH Dillon Klein recorded his ninth match in double-digit kills and his 10th in double-digit points (15.5) with 15 kills (7e, 33att, .242) with seven digs and a block.
  • Jr. S Nate Tennant put up 21 assists with two blocks, one kill, and had three service aces. 
  • Redshirt Fr. MB Teddy Terrill matched his career high with seven blocks and had four kills (1e, 8att, .375).
  • Sr. MB Lucas Frassrand scored five kills (1e, 10att, .400) with three blocks (one solo), and two assists.
  • For the Lopes, Jackson Hickman led with 14 kills, Christian Janke had 13, and Cameron Thorne had 11. Nicholas Slight put up 44 assists with nine digs and three kills. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Trojans came out with the energy and claimed a 25-21 win in the first set. USC got four kills apiece from Kobrine, Jack Deuchar, and three from Klein. Tennant scored three aces in a row to get the Trojans out to an early 5-0 lead and the net defense came alive for 4.5 blocks in the opening frame.
  • Grand Canyon claimed the last of three lead changes in the second set and came away with a 25-22 win behind 11 kills…
