LOS ANGELES – The 12th-ranked USC men’s volleyball team (7-3) fell to No. 19 UC San Diego (3-7) in a three-set sweep (25-21, 25-13, 25-21) at Galen Center on Friday, Feb. 2.
KEY PLAYERS
- So. OH Riley Haine scored 12.0 points with nine kills (1e, 14att) on .571 hitting and had three blocks (one solo), four digs, one service ace, and three assists.
- Fr. S Caleb Blanchette put up 19 assists and had five digs, three blocks, and one kill as he set the Trojans to.385 hitting.
- So. OH Dillon Klein reached double-digit kills in a match for the 27th time in his career and finished with a team-high 14.0 points on 11 kills (3e, 23att) and .348 hitting to go with five digs, three blocks (one solo), and a service ace.
- Redshirt Jr. OPP Jack Deuchar put up four kills, had four digs, and had two blocks.
- Fr. MB Wesley Smith posted six kills (0e) on seven swings to hit .857 and put up six blocks (one solo) and three digs.
- For the Tritons, Josh Schellinger led with 10 kills and hit .273 with six digs and three blocks. Evan Boyle had a match-high seven digs and Andrew Boyle put up 28 assists with three blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- USC out-hit UCSD, .385 to .111. Both teams had 32 kills, but the Trojans had a 12-7.5 edge in blocks and put up 27 digs to the Tritons’ 21. UC San Diego had three aces to USC’s two.
