No. 2 Cardinals Down Hokies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Outside hitter Claire Chaussee had 18 kills to lead the No. 2-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team to a win over Virginia Tech in four sets 25-21, 25-13, 20-25, 25-18 Friday night in L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.
 
Louisville moves to 16-1 and is now 7-0 in ACC play. The Cardinals hit .351, tallied eleven blocks, and had four aces. Chaussee hit .455 and had 10 digs and two blocks. Aiko Jones and Amaya Tillman each had 11 kills. Tillman hit .526 and had a team-high seven blocks. Nena Mbonu had 10 kills, one ace, three digs, and two blocks. Setter Raquel Lazaro recorded 45 assists, two aces, eight digs, and five blocks. Sophomore libero Elena Scott had 13 digs and one ace.

With her 19 kills, Claire Chaussee is one kill away from joining the 1000-Kill Club. 

 

Virginia Tech hit .187 and had seven aces and six blocks. The Hokies were led by Cera Powell who had 12 kills, one ace, five digs, and two blocks.

 

UofL hosts Wake Forest on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET at the L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

The Cards and the Hokies traded points to start the match until Virginia Tech jumped out to a three point lead at 8-5. Back-to-back points from the Hokies forced Louisville to use their first timeout at 11-6. A solo block from Tillman and back-to-back kills from Chaussee brought the Cards within one. A kill from Jones tied the score at 13-13 and made Virginia Tech call a timeout. UofL took the lead at 17-16 and then a block from Tillman and Lazaro gave the Cards a two-point lead at 19-17. The…
