No. 2 Cardinals Head to Miami and Florida State to Open ACC Slate


LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 2 University of Louisville volleyball head south to Florida to play at Miami on Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET and at Florida State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Sunday’s game will be televised on ESPN.
 
The Cardinals are coming off an impressive week with wins against in-state rival No. 15 Kentucky and cross-country opponent No. 5 Stanford. UofL was led by fifth year Claire Chaussee who recorded 16 kills (.371), six digs, and two blocks against Kentucky and 19 kills (.310) and four digs against Stanford. Due to a stellar performance, Chaussee was named ACC Player of the Week. Middle blockers Amaya Tillman recorded 19 kills and 7 blocks while Cara Cresse had 11 kills and 17 blocks through both matches. Setter Raquel Lazaro notched two double-doubles with 46 assists and 14 digs against Kentucky and 39 assists and 11 digs against Stanford. Sophomore libero Elena Scott had 33 digs, 3 aces, and 11 assists.
 
UofL is now 9-1 on the season and 5-1 against ranked opponents heading into conference play.
 
Miami

Louisville and Miami have met 14 times with the Cards leading the series 11-3. UofL has won five in a row including a sweep at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena in 2021. Led by coach Jose “Keno” Gandara in his tenth season, the Hurricanes are 7-4 this season. Notable losses include a 3-2 loss to both No. 21 Oregon and No. 25 UCF. Miami returns 2021 AVCA East Coast All-Region honorable mention nominee Angela Grieve. Grieve, a 6-0 redshirt-junior, leads the team in kills with 126 hitting .202 and has 11 aces, 70 digs, and 15 blocks. Freshman Flormarie Heredia Colon is also a key player for the Hurricanes. The 6-0 outside hitter has notched 111 kills hitting .245, 3 aces, 25 digs, and 13 blocks.
 
Florida State
Louisville and FSU have met for the 24th time with the Seminoles leading 14-10. The Cardinals swept FSU in 2021. Coach Chris Poole is headed into his 15th season with the Seminoles. Their current record is 8-3 with notable losses to No. 12 Florida and No. 22 Creighton. FSU returns key offense to the lineup in sophomore Audrey Koenig and senior Emma Clothier. Koenig, a 6-3 outside hitter, was named to the 2021 ACC All-Freshman Team and has 110 kills hitting .214 with 17 aces, 86 digs, and 16 blocks.
