No. 3 Cards Down No. 22 Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Anna DeBeer had nine kills and four blocks to lead the No. 3-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team to a 25-18, 25-15, 25-17 sweep of No. 22-ranked Western Kentucky Wednesday night at E.A. Diddle Arena.

UofL hit .183 as a team with nine service aces and 14 blocks to stay undefeated at 4-0. Amaya Tillman recorded seven blocks and added five kills. Claire Chaussee hit seven kills, two aces and two blocks and setter Raquel Lazaro had a match-high 22 assists and added two kills, an ace and six blocks. Elena Scott tallied 16 digs for the Cards on defense.

The Hilltoppers hit .000 with eight blocks and no aces and drop to 3-1. WKU was led by Lauren Matthews’ eight kills and three blocks. Katie Isenbarger had four blocks and four kills.

The Cardinals are back in action this weekend versus San Diego on Friday Β in the first match of the Cardinal Classic.

Set 1
The Cardinals popped out to an 8-1 lead forcing WKU to burn a timeout early in the first set. In all, Β Claire Chaussee’s served for nine straight points before a service error ended her run. Β The Toppers used their last time out when UofL took a 17-7 lead on three straight WKU miscues. The Hilltoppers ran off four straight to come within six at 19-13 but UofL closed out the set 25-18. Both teams were hitting negative but the Cards relied on four aces and four blocks for the edge.

In the second set, WKU took the lead at 6-5 and held it until a ball handling error by the Tops gave the lead back to the Cards at 9-8. Louisville tied at 10 at the start of a four…
