TEMPE, Ariz. – The third-ranked USC beach volleyball team (11-2) took down 19th-ranked Arizona (8-2) by a 5-0 count at the Pac-12 South Invitational at the Sun Devil Beach Volleyball Facility on Sunday, March 10.
The Women of Troy won their seventh straight dual and improved to 13-0 all-time in meetings with the Wildcats. In 5-0 matches, the Trojans improved to 145-2 all-time and collected their seventh clean sweep of the season. USC goes to 35-1 all-time in the state of Arizona.
The Trojans collected the first point of the dual with a win by their No. 4 pair of freshman Madison Goellner and sophomore Gabby Walker. The duo claimed a 21-16, 22-20 win over Jess Horwath and Kate Phillips to move to 2-0 together.
The Women of Troy went in front, 2-0, when graduates Maddi Kriz and Grace Seits completed a three-set win over Grace Cook and Hope Shannon, 20-22, 21-10, 15-9, at the No. 2 position for their seventh consecutive win as a pair. Kriz-Seits moves to 9-1 on the season.
The dual win went into the books when graduate Nicole Nourse and sophomore Madison White went 22-20, 21-19 over Kylee Fitzsimmons and Annie Kost at the No. 3 position. On the top court, senior All-Americans Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple claimed a 21-13, 21-14 win over Olivia McElroy and Abby Russell to go to 12-1 on the season and give USC a 4-0 lead in the dual.
USC got the final point in a 5-0 sweep off a hard fought three-set win by freshman Ashley Pater and graduate Ainsley Radell at the No. 5 position. The Trojans’ duo got a 26-24, 22-24, 15-13 win over Miranda Erro and Ashlyn Zilliken.
USC concludes play at the Pac-12 South Invitational with a dual against Oregon (1-10) at 2 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Networks.
