No. 4 Cardinals Take Down Missouri 3-0

VERMILLION, S.D. — Anna DeBeer had 10 kills, two aces and nine digs as the No. 4-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team swept Missouri 25-12, 25-22, 25-18 Saturday afternoon at the South Dakota Coyote Invitational.
 
The Cardinals move to 3-0 on the season with the win. UofL hit .298 as a team with 11 blocks and five aces. Amaya Tillman had six kills and three blocks and Claire Chaussee added seven kills, an ace and a block. Setter Raquel Lazaro had 31 assists and four blocks. Libero Elena Scott had a match-high 18 digs.

Lazaro was named MVP of the Tournament and Aiko Jones and Amaya Tillman were voted to the All-Coyote Invitational Team. 

 

Missouri (1-1) hit .042 with two aces and seven blocks. The Tigers were led by Anna Dixon’s 12 kills and four blocks.

 

The Cardinals travel to Bowling Green to take on intrastate rival Western Kentucky on Wednesday in Diddle Arena.

 

Set 1

Louisville roared out to a fast start as Elena Scott reeled off a 7-0 scoring run, forcing Missouri to call timeout. After UofL spread the lead to 16-8, Mizzou burnt its last timeout. The Tigers managed a four-point run later in the set to pull within 11 at 22-11 before falling 25-12. UofL hit .444 in that stanza with two aces and two blocks.

 

Set 2

In a much closer contest in the second set, the Tigers stayed close to the Cards in a set that had eight ties and three lead changes. Missouri took the lead at 9-8. UofL pushed back and Missouri used its first time out trailing 15-12 and its second time out trailing 19-14.  The Cardinals let…
