LOS ANGELES – The fourth-ranked USC beach volleyball team (4-0) collected back-to-back 3-2 wins over No. 12 California (1-2) and No. 7 Stanford (7-3) on the first day of the Pac-12 South Invitational at Merle Norman Stadium, Saturday, March 4.
The Women of Troy have now won 40 consecutive duals dating back to March 5, 2022. The Trojans also improved to 76-11 all-time at Merle Norman Stadium and have won 11 straight home duals. USC goes to 11-2 all-time against California and has won the last three meetings with the Golden Bears. The Trojans move to 12-0 all-time against the Cardinal.
At the No. 1 position, Trojan juniors Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple went 2-0 with a straight-set win over Cal’s duo of Ella Dreibholz and Maya Gessner and a three-set dual-clinching victory over Stanford’s top pair of Charlie Ekstrom and Kate Reilly.
USC fell behind Stanford, 2-0, with losses on the even-numbered courts, but drew equal when twin seniors Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse collected a three-set win over Maya Harvey and Taylor Wilson, 21-18, 18-21, 15-6, at the No. 3 position. The Trojans got on the board with another three-set win by newly-paired freshmen Delaney Karl and Gabby Walker at the No. 5 position. Karl also teamed with graduate Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope for a win over the Cal fives in the morning.
In other duals at Merle Norman Stadium, 16th-ranked Washington defeated No. 17 Arizona, 3-2; and Stanford took down the Huskies by the same total. All matches at USC’s site of the Pac-12 South Invitational finished 3-2.
The Trojans are back in action against Washington (3-3) at 10 a.m. PT on Sunday (March 5) and then conclude the invitational with a 3 p.m. meeting against top-ranked crosstown rival UCLA (8-0). All duals will be shown live on the Pac-12 Networks.
